Released in January of 2024, the Bathysphere turned heads with its beautiful organic profile, Side-Effects compatibility, and the fact that it is produced by two amazing companies, MK1 and Turner Return Tops. A stout looking throw, it looks heavier than it is, coming in at 63.7g with the custom engraved MK1xTRT aluminum Flat Caps that ship with it. Available in many solid colors, as well as a quickly dwindling supply of exotic fades/designs, there’s something here for everyone.

One of the most notable features of the Bathysphere is its double hull design. Not quite dual-rimmed, the double hull, along with the C-sized bearing, help keep the stability of the yo-yo while still feeling light and floaty with its organic shape. It’s comfortable in the hand, and powerful on the string. The ability to customize it with varying Side-Effects give the player an added sense of control so they can adjust its weight, and trick-set compatibility. For example, putting Brass Ultra Lights in the Bathy will put it right at 65g, a sweet-spot for many players.

TRT was kind enough to send me a box of their yo-yos to try out, and the Bathysphere was included in there. Over the course of a week I got to test it with different strings, putting it through my limited set of familiar and comfortable tricks. It soon because very clear that the throw outclassed the player, though every moment playing with the Bathysphere was a joy.

I only wish I had some different Side Effects to try with it to see how they played. I’m partial to heavier yo-yos, so pushing the limit with some Brass would have been something I would have really been interested in trying. That being said, the Bathysphere is a throw I definitely want to add to my collection in the near future.
