The initial release of Format:C took place a decade ago in late 2013, prompting a reconsideration. In its second generation, a significant visual overhaul is evident in the flattened hub, replacing the slightly raised and tap-through hub of the original. This modification not only imparts a much cleaner and sleeker appearance but also reduces the center weight. A noticeable enhancement is the broader Sightline.

While not immediately apparent to the observer, a careful comparison of cross-sections reveals that Format C Gen 2 displays comprehensive differences. These changes can be summarized as a substantial shift in weight distribution and overall weight, with Gen 2 being 3.75 grams lighter in total. This reduction is palpable during use, contributing to an altered playing experience.

Not a competition yo-yo, but still great

I bought one during the YYS run slightly before this one. This is a great monometal that plays significantly better than it specs would suggest. While this is definitely too small to be serviceable at any significant level of competition, it's surprisingly powerful despite its low weight. It is relatively stable and spin times are good. I usually don't like 10 balls and switch to a centering bearing, but I like it on this particular throw. I got the blue anodization and it is darker than most blue one drops, and looks fantastic. It doesn't feel quite as smooth in the hand as a nice organic and has almost a bit of sharpness to the rims, but this results and above average stability at this particular width. Overall, I like it quite a lot although think one drop would maybe do well to have some verbiage that recognizes this is not meant for competition in 2024 in the same way the original throw was intended in the mid-2010's.
